Cardiology Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 7:00AM-8:00PM, M-F

Student will observe multiple areas in Cardiology which may include:

  • Diagnostic Cardiology
  • Cath Lab
  • Cardiac Rehab

Essential Functions:

  • Assist technician, RN or cardiac sonographer with various tasks involved in non-invasive testing for cardiac disease.
  • Perform tasks to support the department as directed by the lead RN.
  • Observation of various invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures performed in the Heart Center

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be considerate to patient’s needs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in working with diverse clients. 
  • Reliable and trustworthy; able to work as a member of a work team.
  • Keep a professional manner in your actions and appearance.
  • Follow directions and have an eagerness to learn.

Other Guidelines: 

  • Prior to placement, the student must go through the volunteer training at the hospital and meet all requirements for immunizations, health screening, and a background check. 
    • Student must complete the online Mercy Medical volunteer form ONCE they are approved through the WLC internship process. This includes HIPPA Training, Training Videos and Confidentiality Forms.
    • Student must attend and participate in the Mercy Orientation Process.
    • Student must provide immunization Records that include: 2 MMR's, 2 Varicella and Flu Shot or Titre Tests, plus be fully-vaccinated against Covid. Student must check with Mercy volunteer coordinator if they seek a medical or religious exemption. TB Test is required; this will be done at Mercy and Mercy will cover the cost.
    • Student must have a social security number or appropriate visa number because a background check will be performed.
    • Students must adhere to department requirements for processes and procedures as listed in job descriptions functions.
  • If a patient has a medically related question, always refer them to the overseeing technologist.
  • Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
  • Patient’s charts are confidential and can only be read under the direct consent of the patient or technologist.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
