The Cedar County Historical Society is located in Tipton, Iowa.  Whether you are looking for genealogical information, interested in local history or want to see a huge collection of Cedar County artifacts, they have it all.

The Collections Assistant Intern, under general supervision of the director, will gain knowledge related to maintenance of museum records and artifacts.  The intern will assist in a wide range of duties related to cleaning and maintenance of new and existing artifacts, and research related to new and current collections.

Essential Functions:

  •  Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  •  Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Clean, catalog and store artifacts.
  • Research and document history of artifacts.  Remote work is available.
  •  Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.  

Minimum Requirements:

  •  Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias.  Must be a self-motivated and honest, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 
  •  Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in history after high school.  Must be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  •  Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for work depending on the day.  Intern should be prepared to get dirty, but may also be asked to work in a semi-casual office setting.
  •  General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

 

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
