Cosmetology Assistant Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs

Artistic Edge Salon is a locally owned hair salon in Clarence, Iowa.

The Cosmetology Assistant Intern, under direct supervision of staff, will have the opportunity to learn the day to day operations of the business, and about potential careers in cosmetology through this internship.

Essential Functions: 

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Assist with retail product display arrangements.
  • May assist with client scheduling.
  • Work alongside stylists as per Iowa regulations. 
  • Wash, dry and fold towels and capes as needed.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image. 

 

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be a courteous and respectful team-player.  Must be detail-oriented, and professional.  Trustworthy and confidential conduct is required; student must maintain client confidentiality at all times.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being open minded.
  • Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology after high school.  
  • Attire: Business casual attire is recommended.  Dress pants or jeans without holes, closed toed, comfortable shoes, and conservative/professional tops. 
  • General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Frequent sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS.

 

 ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

 

 SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
