Compass Memorial Healthcare is a healthcare provider with multiple locations in Iowa County, Iowa.

The Occupational Therapist Intern, under supervision of staff, will have the opportunity to learn about the daily responsibilities, and careers related to athletic training through this internship.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide immunization records and be current on all immunizations.
  • Adhere to department requirements for processes and procedures as listed in job descriptions functions.
  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Observe clinicians during patient care. Patient confidentiality must be followed at all times.
  • Assist with laundry duties: change linen after each patient with proper disposal of soiled material. Keep linen well stocked in plinths.
  • Assist clinicians as needed: obtain equipment, modalities, etc.
  • Assist in keeping the department neat, well organized, safe, and professional in appearance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, enjoy working with animals with compassion and empathy, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 
  • Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a healthcare career after high school.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  • Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for a healthcare setting.  Closed toed, comfortable shoes, long pants, and a conservative top. 
  • General Physical Activities with or without Reasonable Accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

Other Guidelines:

  • Student will call 2 weeks prior to internship to discuss start date, hours, and dress code.
  • Refer all questions regarding medical or rehabilitation treatment to the supervising clinician.
  • Direct patient contact is only allowed with permission of the patient, and under the direct supervision of the overseeing therapist for educational purposes.
  • Patient’s charts are confidential and can only be read under the direct consent of the patient or overseeing therapist.
  • The computers are only to be used with permission.
  • An orientation will be performed to review job responsibilities, orientation to the clinic and staff, outline schedule and hours, and develop goals.
  • Weekly discussion of students focus questions and other assignments will be performed.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS.

ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
