Intern Title: Firefighter Student Practicum

Essential Functions:

Observe responses to alarms of fire and other emergencies with a pumper, ladder or rescue company. Observe responses to a variety of emergency calls requiring the performance of light-to-heavy duty rescue activities such as administering oxygen, performing CPR, and operating various equipment used in rescue operations.
Participates in fire drills and attends regular in-house meetings on firefighting, rescue, first aid, fire prevention and related subjects.
Observes required training for emergency certifications (medical, hazmat, firefighter).
Observes fire prevention inspections of residential and business buildings.
Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image. Use appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision and beliefs and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge: Ability to follow instructions. Must have strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy working with the public without bias or prejudice. Must be detail-oriented. Professional and trustworthy conduct is required. Must be courteous and respectful. Basic knowledge of elementary mechanics, physics and chemistry.
Must be a high school senior in good standing. Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
Must complete application to observe form which includes Police record search ($5 fee that the student in responsible for) prior to approval.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
