Engineering Technician Assistant

The Jones County Engineer's Office maintains nearly 860 miles of roads.   Approximately 170 miles of the system is hard surfaced (PCC, Asphalt, Seal Coat) and the remaining miles either has a granular or earth surface.  It is also responsible for everything within the road right-of-way, including thousands of drainage structures that cross and parallel these roads including 175 bridges over twenty feet long.  The County is divided into ten maintenance districts which provide a number of services.  Some of the services that are provided include: snow removal, drainage maintenance, blading, roadside management and traffic control.

 

The Engineering Technician Assistant will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of construction and maintenance of County infrastructure through this experience.

  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.
  • Intern may assist in the updating and maintaining of the Jones County Secondary Roads CAD Plans and associated work.
  • Intern May enter and create information for files and  documents.
  • Intern will be introduced to AutoCad Civil Design software applications.

Minimum Requirements:
Skills/Knowledge:  Ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be courteous, and respectful.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must work well with others, be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible. 

Attire: Business Casual attire is recommended, but also plan to dress appropriately for outdoor work.  Closed toed shoes are required.

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Frequent walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, and lifting up to 30lbs.  Occasional pulling, pushing and lifting over 30 lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
