General Nursing Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: To be arranged

Essential Functions:

  • Change patient linen for each patient and properly dispose of used linens in the laundry chute.
  • Assist with daily patient functions such as weighing patients and preparing rooms for new admissions or surgical patients.
  • Clean ER cart with Sanimaster germicidal cleaning agent after use and remake cart with new linen.
  • Take specimens to lab as directed.
  • Pass and pick up meal trays, water and snacks to patients.  Document intake amount on the I/O sheet for staff guidance.
  • Straighten up patient rooms and/or nursing unit and ER rooms when necessary.
  • Retrieve supplies for acute care staff should he/she ask you.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be courteous of patient’s decency and right to privacy.
  • Student must provide and wear their own scrubs.
  • Professionalism is mandatory.  We take our patient’s care and progress very seriously.
  • Direct patient contact is off limits to all volunteers unless under the direct supervision of overseeing nurse for educational purposes and/or exposure.

Other Guidelines:

  • If a patient has a medically related question, always refer them to the overseeing nurse or PST.
  • Patient’s charts are confidential and can only be read under the direct consent of the patient or overseeing nurse.
  • Since you are not a paid employee, you are not insured for injury to self and/or others.  Therefore, be aware that you are responsible for yourself within the facility.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

 

 SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
