Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 9-5

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for working/excersising younger horses. Basic training from ground up.
  • Wash and groom horses as needed. Pm feeding/medicine distribution.
  • Clean/Muck stalls when needed.
  • Exposure to small business management.
  • April-May, assist with Foal Watch, communicate any problems concerns with mares and foals to Barn Manager.
  • Tend to foals and mares as needed.
  • June-August, Assist with hay management.

Basic Requirements:

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Professional and trustworthy conduct is required. Must be courteous and respectful.
  • Must possess great communication skills. Must have extensive knowledge of horse behavior and safety procedures, care/feeding, basic animal medical knowledge, horse anatomy.
  • Must be high school student in good standing.
  • Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  • Operate a skid steer. Not required but will teach those wanting to learn.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
