Office Hours: 8-5

The Benton County Conservation Board offers internships to students who have an interest in environmental education and natural resource management.  Dates for internships are flexible.  Applicants should be flexible, responsible, work well with the public and be able to work as part of a team.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist the Naturalist & Ranger with trail maintenance, including clearing of vines and small limbs overhanging trails.
  • Monthly check of trails to see where maintenance is needed.
  • Assisting with tree and prairie plantings, when needed.
  • Assisting with prescribed burns, when needed.
  • Assisting with removal of woody invaders in prairie areas.
  • Pruning of landscape trees and shrubs in highly visible areas of park.

           

Other Duties as Requested:

  • Assist with grounds upkeep .
  • Assist with weed removal .
  • Any other duties as requested by other full time staff or supervisor.

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must be prompt and dependable.
  • Must be a high school student in good standing. 
  • Must be poised, mature, and posses a positive attitude while being flexible. 
  • Ability to follow instructions a must.
  • Must be able to perform routine tasks without being prompted.
  • Must be professional, courteous, respectful, and trustworthy.

Part-time internships are on a non-paid basis.  Dedicated volunteers are extremely helpful to our staff and volunteer experience is a valuable asset to students.  Interns will be evaluated on their performance and interaction with employees and the public.  Work hours will be negotiated with each candidate.   Candidates will report to the Rodgers Park as their main base of operations


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
