Functions:intern will be instructed and supervised in the following functions:

Vehicle Interior and Compartment Cleaning and Disinfection:

The interior parts and surfaces of the vehicle will be cleaned with approved solution on a monthly basis and spot cleaned as needed after each call.

 

Driving Compartment:

The vehicle-driving compartment will be wiped with approved solution.  The inner windshield, mirror and door windows will be cleaned with “spray glass” glass cleaner.  The dash will be sprayed with vinyl cleaner and wiped dry.  Floor and seats will be vacuumed or swept and shampooed as needed.

 

Patient Compartment:

All interior surfaces of the patient compartment will be wiped and/or scrubbed with approved solution.  Equipment and supplies will be removed from compartments and the compartment interiors wiped with approved cleaner.  Compartment liner mats will be removed and scrubbed with detergent.  After drying, equipment and supplies will be returned to compartments.

 

·         All equipment used by the ambulance staff will be checked by the authorized shift personnel.

·         Vehicle supervisor will review for thoroughness and need for repairs.

·         Notify Vehicle Supervisor of any equipment malfunction upon inspection. 

  • Inspections will be completed by each shift -
    • Oil; add if needed
    • Windshield washer solvent; add if needed
    • Antifreeze level
    • Oxygen: main tanks and portable tanks (change tanks if less than 500psi)
      • Levels should be recorded on the shift check sheet
    • General exterior and interior cleanliness
    • Lights; proper operation of interior and exterior lights
    • Vehicle integrity, (i.e. loose screws, etc. shall be tightened).
    • Radio’s, cell phone’s
    • Exam Gloves-all sizes (Front and Back)
    • Map Books, protocols, trip sheets, refusals, Iowa Communications Directory, Iowa Map
    • Flashlight-mag light
    • Monitor/Defibrillator (see also Monitor Policy)
    • Glucometer/ supplies
    • Thermometers/Doppler/Pulse Oximeter
    • Auto Vent/Supplies
    • O.B. Burn Kits / Isolation Garments / Bio Bags
    • Complete Manual BP Kit
    • Pediatric Bag
    • Nasal Cannula / Non-Rebreather Masks
    • On board Suction / supplies
    • Restraints (SOFT) x2
    • 2 B/P Cuffs / 2 Stethescopes

  • Any malfunctioning equipment should be noted on the shift check sheet, equipment repair form filled out, and a member of the charge staff should be notified
  • All items should be stocked as noted in the inventory lists for each ambulance, located at the garages, the inventory lists should be used as a guide, any changes to these lists should be approved by the director.
  • Any item not stocked, should be stocked immediately, most supplies can be found in the supply cabinets at each station.

 

  •  Requirements: Student must be a senior and 18 years of age to participate
  • Student must work to obtain a course completion card in Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare provider module.
  •  
  • Student must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing the field of EMT or Paramedic
  •  
  • Student should be prepared to respond to all calls under the supervision of their site host during a scheduled shift.  Student interns will not administer care or medical advice to any patient.  
  • Student must adhere to the patient care protocols and policies and procedures as directed by their site host.
  •  
  • Attend education classes and meetings as directed by their site host
  •  
  • Keep ambulance clean stocked and fueled ready for next call.

  • Other Duties as assigned for full time staff
  • THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

    SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
