Office Hours: 8-5

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • An interest in working with persons with developmental or intellectual disabilities  is required.
  • An interest in education, experience and/or interests in crafts, recreational and other related activities is preferred.
  • Ability to work with individuals, families, agency professionals, and direct service providers is important.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of the Arc of East Central Iowa.
  • Computer skills are desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assuring the well-being of the consumer by providing direct supervision and care with training and supervision.
  • Responsible for assisting in coordinating and potentially leading recreational activities.
  • Responsible for creating a positive, safe environment.
  • Responsible for engaging consumers in activities of interest,  providing positive reinforcement, and modeling appropriate behavior.
  • This position is part time.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and reach overhead. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use effective verbal, written, and non-verbal communication.
  • Report any incident or signs of abuse and/or neglect per training.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
