QUALIFICATIONS:
- At minimum, currently in High School and be at least 16 years of age
- Some experience working with persons who have developmental disabilities is preferred
- Education, experience and/or interests in crafts, recreational and other related activities
- Must be free of communicable disease
- Ability to work with families, agency professionals, and direct service providers
- Meet and maintain volunteer eligibility established by funding agencies as determined by checks of the: Central Child and Adult Abuse Registries, Criminal History Check, and Traffic/Safety Record Check (Local and National Registries) and DHS Volunteer Statements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position requires the Arts & Crafts/Assistant Counselor Aide to help in assuring the well being of the consumer by providing direct supervision and care
- The Arts & Crafts/Assistant Counselor Aide is responsible for assisting in coordinating and leading arts & craft activities as well as other recreational activities.
· Responsible for creating a positive, safe environment
- Responsible for engaging consumers in activities of interest, providing positive reinforcement, and role modeling appropriate behavior
- The program runs for 32 child contact days and has a number of training days prior to the start of the program. Staff works Monday through Friday (June-July), hours are flexible and will be scheduled with the Program Coordinator; the only exception to the regularly scheduled hours is during training week. This position is part time and requires a commitment to the entire 8 weeks of employment.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and reach overhead
- Ability to use effective verbal, written or other communication means
- Maintain consumer health status by safely and thoroughly assisting in carrying out health procedures, such as tube feedings, toileting, seizure, first aid, medication dispensation etc.

· Report any incident or signs of abuse and/or neglect per procedure
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain consumer confidence and protect the agency by keeping information confidential
- Provide information to families who have individuals with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. This would include families who are not currently involved with The Arc
