Animal Caretaker Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 10-5

Essential Functions:

  • Assists staff and clients with animals.
  • Walks dogs and socializes dogs and cats.
  • Cleans kennels.
  • Feeds animals.
  • Assists with administering medication as directed by staff. 
  • Care and cleaning of facilities and equipment.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.  Use appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision and beliefs and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.  

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills/Knowledge: Enjoys animals, is prompt and dependable, takes pride in helping, and is able to perform routine tasks without being prompted once trained.
  • Must be a high school student in good standing. Must possess a positive attitude while being flexible. Ability to follow instructions. Professional conduct is required.  Must be courteous and respectful. 
  • Science and animal classes a plus.
  • Working Conditions: This internship is outdoors and the student will come into contact with animals, their waste, and potential allergens such as pollen, hay, and dust. There may be lifting involved. Students are expected to follow all safety protocol as outlined by staff. Able to work under adverse medical emergencies with professionalism.
  • This description does not list all duties. Intern may be asked to perform other duties by the staff or supervisor. On-site hours will be negotiated with each candidate. 

    THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

    SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
