Law Enforcement/Public Safety Intern

Office Hours: 24hs/7dys per week

The Law Enforcement/Public Safety Intern will work with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office personnel in conjunction with the Iowa County Emergency Management Agency to gain an understanding of what is involved in the day to day operation of each agency and many of the functions that are performed for each.  The Intern will assist in day to day tasks as well as special projects undertaken by the ICSO/ICEMA.  The functions will include and are not limited to various filing and record systems, methods of communication, emergency equipment, office management, chain of command, interoperability between all levels of government, interaction with the public, interaction with other agencies and so forth.  The Intern will learn and appreciate the confidentiality of much of what law enforcement does on a daily basis and understand and adhere to that confidentiality at all times.  The intern will witness and understand how public safety personnel are charged with keeping the public informed while at the same time keeping victims’ identities and personal information private and secure.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
