Kyle Huston Trucking is a locally owned grain hauling business located in Wyoming, Iowa.

The Basic Maintenance and Service Intern, will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of day to day operations at Kyle Huston Trucking through this internship.

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with company mission, vision, and beliefs and in accordance with operation procedures and policies. 
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Work with drivers and owner on local grain hauling runs to Clinton and Cedar Rapids co-ops as a passenger/helper role during schedule internship time.  MUST COMPLETE WORKSITE VISIT CONSENT FORM
  • Learn grain bin safety and proper clean out procedures.
  • Perform maintenance and basic repair of trucking fleet under the guidance and supervision of the staff and owner while meeting all safety requirements.
  • Learn pre-trip safety procedures and truck "walk around".
  • Receive instruction in CDL overview procedures, test preview and safety procedures at all the drop off sites.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 
  •  Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in transportation, logistics and or service tech work after high school.  Must be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  •  Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for a shop setting.  Closed toed shoes, long pants or jeans without holes, and sweatshirts or long sleeved tshirts, with artwork/logos approved by the business host.  Intern should be prepared to dress for varied shop conditions, and should be prepared to get dirty. 
  •  General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
