Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 9:00AM - 6:00PM

Description: The student internship is an unpaid position and is an opportunity for the student to learn about community pharmacy practice. Because it is an unpaid position educational position, the student will be considered a support individual helping with various technical activities under the supervision of pharmacists and/or other support staff. Besides learning about the different aspects of community pharmacy practice, the student will also help with special projects and have required reading and writing assignments.

 Possible Duties and Responsibilities

 Help put away inventory.

  • Review the top 100 Over-the-counter medications.
  • Learn about the most common prescription medications/therapeutic classes.
  • Assist with medication compliance packaging.
  • Keep merchandise neat and faced.
  • Assist with filling prescriptions.
  • Read about contemporary community pharmacy practice.
  • Provide support for special projects.
  • Provide written assignments on topics ranging from new drug updates to drug information questions.
  • Review the different career options for pharmacists.
  • Keep an ongoing log about their activities and what they have learned.
  • Shadow pharmacists and technicians learning about their positions and responsibilities.
  • Assist in helping patients/customers at the pharmacy.

 Requisites

  • Reviewing and understanding HIPPA requirements and signing out HIPPA agreement
  • Register as a Pharmacy Support


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE Staff or SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. On-site HOURS WILL BE negotiated WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

Safety expectations, including harassment, should be reviewed with the host.
