Job Title: Concrete Finisher

Summary: Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete.
  • Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccesible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, with hand held screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges.
  • Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
  • Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Abiility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Abililty to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
