Business Administration Intern


Summary: All of our efforts should be directed towards these national and local missions:

  •  To focus on building affordable, quality houses with those who lack adequate shelter, one family at a time.
  •  Expand opportunities to serve a broader base of the low income community by providing low cost materials and other educational resources.
  •  Provide a good stewardship of sustainable resources in the community.
  •  To support the affiliate’s housing goals, as well as the ReStore’s environmental initiatives.
  •  To work directly with individuals and groups in the community to further our work and better our area.
 

Hours:

  •  Will commit 5-10 hours per week depending on projects assigned and class schedule.
  •  Weekly schedule will be determined and set at the start of the internship. Intern will volunteer most Tuesdays-Fridays for approximately 1.5 hours each day. Intern will also volunteer 2 or more Saturdays (schedule will be discussed in advance).
  •  Most work will be performed in the IVHFH office and ReStore.
  •  Will meet and discuss progress continuously throughout the week.
 

Daily duties:

  •  Shadow and assist in most daily operations of the IVHFH Office and ReStore. At all times, intern must interact and maintain a professional manner while in the office and in the ReStore while dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
  •  Work with staff to help plan and facilitate build, event & volunteer schedules.
  •  Handle necessary communication with volunteers, donors & supporters and develop positive relationships with all potential and current volunteers, donors & supporters.
  •  Help to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  •  Promote effective teamwork among staff and volunteers.
  •  Assist in PR duties such as, but not limited to: creating & sending newsletters, maintaining the IVHFH & ReStore Website and Facebook pages, event planning, marketing.
  •  Aide in any other applicable office tasks & programs dealing with financial management, marketing, PR, volunteer recruitment & retention and retail management.

   

Performance and Attitude:

  •  Intern must be willing to work to maintain a positive attitude and promote a positive work atmosphere.
 

Requirements:

  •  Intern must be in good physical condition and able to assist with some heavy work from time to time (helping lift up to 50 pounds and pulling heavy loads).
  •  Candidate must maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  •  Intern must be willing to adhere to all guidelines set by Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity.
  •  Candidate must also have access to adequate transportation to and from the IVHFH office and ReStore and occasionally some work sites in the Iowa City area.

 

     Affiliate Responsibilities:

  •  Business will provide ongoing training and feedback to help further the Intern’s understanding of construction practices and volunteer engagement. 


SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
