Dental Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 8-5

 Essential Functions:


  • Shadow and observe dental assistants, dental hygienists, and dentists.
  • Perform duties involved in clerical functions, cleaning, and stocking of the dental office.
  • Must wear appropriate mask/gown and follow safety protocol as instructed by the staff.
  • Exercise patient confidentiality at all times, and when appropriate perform duties when asked.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.
  • Use appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision and beliefs and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Student may be asked to complete the Iowa State Dental Board - Student Dental Assistant application.
  • Student should have completed a WLC dental job shadow and/or be enrolled in the Kirkwood dual-credit Dental Academy.
  • Skills/Knowledge:  Must be able to follow instructions and have good communication skills. Expected to enjoy working in a team environment. Must be courteous and respectful while working with the public without bias or prejudice. Professional and trustworthy conduct is required.  
  • Must be a high school student in good standing, be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  • Business casual attire is required. Must wear closed-toed shoes. Appropriate PPE will be provided if required. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
