Summer Naturalist Intern
Iowa County Coservation, Ladora, Iowa

Description:
This position will run approximately June through August (negotiable) and will offer opportunities to actively participate in environmental education, interpretation, visitor services, and natural resource management. This is a part-time unpaid internship. Interns will be evaluated on their performance and interaction with employees and the public. Internship Description will be reassessed after second interview with student, and tailored to that individual's internship learning goals.

 

Duties:  Develop and present educational programs, assist with summer camps, design and construct nature center displays, assist with educational animal care, write articles for the county conservation newsletter, assist with resource management, and other duties as assigned. Some night and weekend hours will be required. Schedule will be negotiated with the intern.  

 

Qualifications: Must be prompt and dependable, and a high school student in good standing. Be poised, mature, and possess a positive attitude while being flexible. Ability to follow instructions is a must, and be able to perform routine tasks without being prompted.  Must be professional, courteous, respectful, and trustworthy.  Must be able to work well with children and adults.

Possess a valid driver’s license, have the ability to get to and from the work site, use hand and small power tools, and be physically able to work in extreme conditions (heat, humidity, steep terrain, etc).

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
