North Benton Ambulance Service is a private, 501 (c) (3), not-for-profit organization established in 1971.  NBA is a 911 transporting ambulance serving a large portion of Benton County, a portion of Buchanan County, and surrounding towns and communities.  North Benton Ambulance also provides Interfacility Transport services from Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa.  NBA response to approximately 1000 calls for service a year. 

 

The Emergency Assistant Intern, under the general supervision of NBA staff, will observe staff interactions with patients, and learn more about a career as an EMT through this experience. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Help prepare equipment for daily operations.
  • Observe staff during calls.  Patient confidentiality must be exercised at all times.
  • Clean facilities and equipment.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.  

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.  Must possess the ability to think on their feet and work well under pressure.

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing an EMT career after high school.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for the setting.  Closed toed shoes, long pants or jeans without holes.  Intern may need to be prepared to dress for varied outdoor weather conditions. 

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
