Special Education Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs

Essential Functions: 

·        Assist teacher by working with the children individually and in groups.

·        Implement & encourage behavior management strategies utilized by the teacher.

·        Participate in or guide activities for the social, nutritional, physical, emotional and academic development of the children.

·        Assist children to be self-reliant and to relate to others.

·        Interact with individual children and provide a good model for behavior and language.

·        Help to maintain order and cleanliness.  Follow safe sanitation practices at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

·        Skills/Knowledge:  Ability to follow instructions.  Professional and trustworthy conduct is required.  Must be courteous and respectful.  Ability to learn quickly.  Must communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

·        Must be a high school student in good standing.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

·        Must be able to lift and carry children weighing up to 60 lbs. and respond quickly in the event of physical dangers or emergencies.

·        Enjoy working with young children.



THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
