Classroom Assistant - Music Education

Internship Length: 45 hrs

The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District serves about 7,000 people living in and around the towns of Vinton, Garrison, and Shellsburg. 

The Classroom Associate, under direct supervision of the classroom teacher, will have the opportunity to learn about a career in education through this experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Work with students in general education settings to support their learning with the assistance of the lead teacher.
  • Interact with students one-to-one or in small groups of 2-3 students.
  • Discuss concepts and engage in activities that reinforce skills covered in the classroom.  Student confidentiality must be exercised at all times.
  • Supervise students in lunch and recess settings with the assistance of other professionals in the building.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in and outside of the school setting.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image. 

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge: Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Intern must enjoy working with others free of bias, self-motivated, professional, and trustworthy.  Confidential conduct is required.  Must be nurturing, warm, and compassionate when dealing with families and children.

Experience/Education: Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing education as a career after High School. Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Attire: Appropriate and conservative, business casual clothing attire.  Closed-toed, comfortable shoes.

General Physical Activities with or without Reasonable Accommodation: Frequent reaching, walking and lifting up to 30lbs. Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling, and pushing and lifting over 30 lbs.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
