Dental Assistant Intern

The Dental Assistant Internship, under the general supervision of staff, will provide opportunities to observe staff interactions with patients, and gain familiarity with the responsibilities of the various dental careers that are represented in the office.

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies. 
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Intern will gather patient information and accurately enter patient clinical and personal data into computer at check-in.  Patient confidentiality must be exercised at all times.
  • Intern will assist with setup, and breakdown of exam rooms, and sterilization of equipment.
  • Intern will assist dentist and staff in other day to day duties as assigned.
  • Intern will help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a dental career after high school.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for a healthcare office setting.  Conservative, business casual attire is required.  Jeans with holes, and crop tops will not be allowed.  Leggings should only be worn when the top worn along with them covers to mid-thigh.

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Frequent sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
