Internship Length: 45 hrs

Essential Functions:

Will work alongside Public Works Director
Will learn about the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the water system including establishing and executing a water system maintenance program, operation of wells and distribution system, and repair of water main breaks and service failures; collecting samples and performing all water quality tests required by regulation and forwarding the same for analysis, taking required readings and assuring the proper operation of all wells, pumps and treatment mechanisms,
Will learn about the operation of the storm sewer system
Will learn about the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility including monitoring equipment, collecting samples, general maintenance of the facility and equipment which includes pumps, compressors, IFAS system, aerators; lift stations and other activities needed to assure the proper operation of the facility.
Will learn about plats, zoning requests that have been submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission or as related to the activities of the Public Works Department.
Will learn about the maintenance of all City Parks, grounds and facilities

Skills/Knowledge: Ability to follow instructions. Professional and trustworthy conduct is required. Must be courteous and respectful.
Must enjoy working indoors and outdoors.
Must be a high school student in good standing. Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
Ability to work in a team environment.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
