Internship: IT Technician

Intern will be shadowing and learning about the below tasks:

Install and Maintain Systems

Telecommunications Technicians are in charge of keeping current systems updated and running smoothly. They are also tasked with upgrading systems and components when the need arises. Telecommunications Technicians may analyze users’ needs and plan and implement systems tailored to those needs. Whether building a telecommunications system from the ground up or working on a preexisting system, Telecommunications Technicians must be up-to-date on the latest technologies and practices to offer their customers the best system possible

Test Systems

Telecommunications Technicians perform regular tests on systems to ensure all components are running well. This may entail testing equipment or testing circuits using various tools such as network diagnostic tools or standard hand tools. An understanding of electronics and a general handiness is important for Telecommunications Technicians

Troubleshoot and Repair Systems

Trouble reports, computer analysis reports and user complaints are analyzed by Telecommunications Technicians, who then apply their knowledge and experience to identify and rectify problems within the system. Telecommunications Technicians must be able to determine what equipment is needed and how to solve the issue in a timely manner

Telecommunications Technician Skills

Successful Telecommunications Technicians are expert problem-solvers who work well under pressure. They must be analytical and enjoy working with their hands. Telecommunications Technicians should also be excellent communicators and enjoy challenges. In addition to these traits, employers look for applicants with the following skillsets

Core skills: customer service skills, installation, servicing, and maintenance operations of telephone lines, broadband, IPTV, wireless, satellite, security cameras; and to locate/splice fiber and copper cable along with other related duties

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
