About us:
Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) is a not-for-profit, member owned electric distribution cooperative serving more than 28,000 members in portions of six counties in eastern Iowa. Our membership includes residential and commercial accounts in rural and suburban areas of Linn and Johnson counties with line extensions into Jones, Cedar, Iowa and Benton counties. We have providing electricity to these areas for over 80 years.

 

Linn County REC employs several positions, linemen, engineers, staking technician, metering technicians, and member advisors. Our focus is designing, building, maintaining and billing the electrical distribution grid for the member owners we serve.

 

Job description:

As an intern at Linn County REC, you would learn about and assist linemen, engineers, staking technician, metering technicians, and member advisors perform a number of duties, ranging from assisting in clerical duties for projects in progress to assisting in the supervised non safety sensitive field work. You will have the opportunity to gain skills using computer programs such as Microsoft office, AutoCAD MEP 2015, Autodesk, Revit 2015, as well as Adobe Acrobat.

 

Internship will consist of the following departments at Linn County REC:

Operations Where you will see the day in the life of Lineman and operation Manager that direct their duties.

Metering - Where you will see metering installations and use the data from our advanced metering infrastructure (ami).

Engineer   Where you will see how design and documentation come together.

Staking Field and office work to move a members wants for electricity into reality.

Member Services Communications with members, some of the areas are rates, energy efficiency, and safety 

 

Basic Requirements:

Ability to follow instructions and have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs Word and Excel.

Must be a high school senior in good standing.
Must have an interest and be willing to work with your hands and get dirty if the job calls for it.
Must have an interest in working outside when necessary.
Must have an interest in working and communicating with people and potentially the public.

Must be able to complete given tasks in a reasonable amount of time.



THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
