Building Performance Intern

General Job Description:

To contribute to their commitment to energy efficient building operation with maximum occupant comfort. Hands on work with energy consuming systems and data analysis to affect real world change in system operation.  Working closely with Energy and Infrastructure Specialist and other Facilities personnel, perform analysis of energy using systems, monitor performance, complete maintenance tasks, and assist with capital project work.

Essential Functions:  

  • Weather normalize energy use data and observe long term trends
  • Collaborate with team members in a significant energy performance evaluation of a major campus building
  • Implement no cost/low cost system improvements
  • Execute equipment performance testing under the guidance of experienced individuals
  • Provide new and updated documentation of system layout and performance
  • Work independently at times, with regular meetings with supervisor(s).
  • Delivering technical/status reports and presentations

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Eagerness to learn technical aspects of the engineering behind building systems operation
  • Basic understanding of spreadsheet functions
  • Ability to perform equipment testing and troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills  

Educational Requirement:

  • High School junior or senior in good standing.

Environment and Scheduling:

Some work will be done on a computer in a well-lit, temperature controlled environment.  Hands on work will require the ability to cover a lot of ground and safely use ladders and basic hand tools.  Some work may be best completed outside of normal business hours.  Flexible scheduling can be coordinated with supervisor.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
