Diesel Technician Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: Mon–Sat, 7 AM-12 AM

The intern will assist with a variety of activities based on the department needs. This internship will include learning and understanding different parts of our business functions. The intern will learn a variety of different systems and tools necessary to complete daily tasks. The intern will be required to interact with a variety of different departments. The intern will be required to provide a weekly progress report to the manager. 


Potential Majors for Diesel Technician Intern:

Diesel Truck Technology
Automotive Technology or Automotive Collision Repair
Diesel Ag Technology
Agriculture Business Administration, Marketing, Sales

Internship Areas and Basic Requirements:

Diesel Technician – 15 hours

o   Review repair procedures and follow along

o   Document work performed and ask questions when help is needed
o   Ability to work on projects individually or with the assistance of others when needed
o   Followed all processes while on the lookout for discrepancies or issues that could extend the estimated completion time or require additional parts

Body Shop Technician – 10 hours

o   Review work estimate with completion time and parts order

o   Explain issues that arise, additional parts needed, salvageable parts that don’t need ordered
o   Ability to work on projects individually or with the assistance of others when needed
o   Carefully dissemble all parts, documenting what is salvageable and not, carefully reassemble after jobs are completed

Parts Specialist – 15 hours

o   Follow internal processes for ordering parts

o   Determine the part needed and explain estimated shipping time to customers
o   Learn the software program and answer customer questions via walk-ins and phone calls
o   Understand inventory coding, compatible parts, shipping and receiving procedures

Sales – 5 hours

o   Understand internal process for quoting trucks, identifying potential customers, closing the sales deal

o   Determine the customers’ needs and wants, identify how we can be their best solution
o   Identify potential customers, contact them, visit locations
o   Understand truck inventory and differences in makes, models, create accurate quotes

Basic Requirements:

o   Ability to follow instructions – review repair procedures and follow along
o   Strong communication skills – documenting work performed and asking questions when help is needed

o   Ability to work in both a team environment and independently – most repairs are performed solo but occasionally they require assistance
o   Attention to detail – all processes must be followed while on the lookout for discrepancies or issues that could extend the estimated completion time or require additional parts
o   Must be a high school junior or senior

 


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED BY THE INTERN AND THEIR SUPERVISOR.
