Internship Length: 90 hrs
Office Hours: M-F, 8:00am - 4:00pm

The Jackson County Conservation Board offers internships to students who have an interest in environmental education and natural resource management. Dates for unpaid internships are flexible. Applicants should be flexible, responsible, work well with children and be able to work as part of a team.

Essential Duties:

· Assist with the development, organization, and presentation of environmental education programs for the general public, civic and conservation groups, youth groups and schools in Jackson County.

· Care for captive animals at the Hurstville Interpretive Center.

· Assist with grounds upkeep and natural resource management around nature center and county parks.

Other Duties as Requested:

· Care and maintenance of materials and equipment used for programs.

· Lead groups in activities such as nature hikes, orienteering, canoeing, and fishing in outdoor settings.

· Provide information to the public related to the natural resources field, tourism, and related topics.

· Assisting with tree and prairie plantings, when needed.

· Assisting with removal of woody invaders in prairie areas.

· Pruning of landscape trees and shrubs in highly visible areas of park.

· Weeding and garden work in pollinator garden at nature center.

Minimum Job Requirements:

· Demonstrated ability to work with K-12 students and general public.

Beginning knowledge of environmental themes and issues, outdoor skills, recreation programs, basic ecology, field identification and natural history.
Ability to work outside in a variety of weather and terrain conditions.
Must be prompt and dependable.
Must be a high school student in good standing.
Must be professional, courteous, respectful, and trustworthy.
