Commercial Foodservice Equipment Technician Intern

Office Hours: 8:00-5:00 M-F

Think about how many restaurants, cafeterias, banquet halls, or facilities you have visited. Everywhere you look, you find commercial foodservice equipment, and every piece of equipment requires service, preventative maintenance, and care.

If you are interested in multiple trades like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration, Star Food Service Equipment & Repair will teach you those and much more. We want to help develop a plan for your future. We provide an interactive, fun, and challenging work environment.

Responsibilities include:

·         Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial kitchen equipment: ice machines, walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, ovens, fryers, ice cream machines, popcorn poppers, microwaves and so much more.

·         Learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning commercial foodservice equipment to determine the cause of the malfunction.

·         Perform scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjust, clean, and calibrate various systems to assure proper system operations.

·         Repair wiring and electronic components.

·         Replace expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units, and other component parts.

·         Clean refrigerant systems from enclosed burnouts, evacuate, and charge systems.

·         Troubleshoots and repair direct digital and pneumatic control systems.

·         Checks distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc.

·         Learn to provide technical assistance with installations and modifications to existing systems.

·         Develop your career to eventually assist in training other technicians and staff in repair and preventative maintenance of equipment.

·         Prepare and submit requests for supplies and equipment.

·         Respond to emergency service requests.

·         Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations, guidelines, safety orders, departmental operating procedures and safety regulations sufficient to ensure that work is performed in compliance with applicable law.

·         Learn important safety rules/procedures; avoid known hazards in the work environment.

·         Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle. Maintain vehicle maintenance requirements and an accurate part and tool inventory.

Minimum Requirements:

·         Be a high school senior in good standing

·         Be motivated to learn and problem solve

·         Strong ability to read, write and speak the English language

·         Strong oral and written communication skills

·         Basic understanding of computer technology

·         Be safety conscious

·         Be a self-starter and willing to work independently

·         Be accountable, punctual, and professional

 

Physical Demands:

·         Must be able to climb stairs and ladders

·         Requires moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; up to 75 LBs

·         Requires walking, standing, sitting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, twisting, and turning

·         Must be able to use hands with fine motor skills in the use of industry specific tools

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
