About Us:

Pursuing sustainability in the operation of Linn County means working effectively toward meeting the goals of climate resolution through innovative initiatives in Planning and Development, Public Health, Facilities, and Conservation. To be sustainable is to meet the needs of today without preventing future generations from meeting their needs. Environmental sustainability addresses air, water, land, plants, and animals. Linn County is committed to environmental sustainability and resource protection while working toward a more environmentally just future. The core functions of this commitment are to equitably address issues of climate adaptation and engage the public in climate action. 

Description of Role:

The student intern will work directly with the Sustainability Program Manager for Linn County to learn what environmental sustainability means, how it looks, and how it impacts the larger community. Meetings may be fact-to-face or virtual. The student will work on a current or possible future project that addresses sustainability for Linn County. Such projects have been the value and use of electric vehicles, opportunities with renewable energy, and the possibility of community gardens. Students may be asked to present their project to the Linn County Board of Supervisors and/or the Sustainability Council. 


Minimum Requirements:

* Strong interest in the environment and sustainability efforts
* Strength in problem-solving and innovative learning
* Strong spoken and written communication skills
* Interest in working both independently and in a team environment
* Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
* Must be high school Junior or Senior in good standing
* Business casual attire required


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
