About Us:

Communications staff works with the Board of Supervisors, other County elected officials, and all County departments to provide timely and accurate information to residents, businesses, and the media regarding County programs, services, and events. The Core Functions include leading strategic communications, brand management, website administration, social media engagement, and special events. The Communications Team for Linn County is committed to ensuring there are many ways for the public to stay informed about programs, services, and events within County government.

Description of Role:

The student intern will work directly with the Communications Director or Communication Specialist for Linn County to learn what Communications means, how it looks, and how it impacts the larger community. Meetings may be face-to-face or virtual. The student will work on a current or possible future project that addresses Communications for Linn County. Such projects may be updating county brochures which include transferring appropriate information and checking the layout, working on the website redesign which involves the content for the website, and working as a multimedia journalist which includes interviewing county staff and creating videos to find and tell human interest stories. Students may be asked to present their project(s) to the Linn County Board of Supervisors. 


Minimum Requirements:

* Strong spoken communication skills and a willingness to talk to a variety of people
* Strong written communication skills including the ability to edit written work
* Must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills
* Interest in working both independently and in a team environment
* Must have an eye for creative organization and design
* Interest in photography and photo editing is a plus
* Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
* Must be high school Junior or Senior in good standing
* Business casual attire required


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
