Library Assistant Intern

Office Hours: 8am - 5pm

The mission of the Blairstown Public Library is to enrich the lives of its community members by providing materials, services and programming that meet their personal, educational and cultural needs. The library is dedicated to advancing literacy and encouraging lifelong learning.

 

The Library Assistant Intern will have the opportunity to gain and understanding of various aspects of day to day work at the library.  There may be opportunities to assist with summer programming, create window displays and advertising, and other duties as deemed appropriate by the internship host.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs and in accordance with operation procedures and policies. 
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Meet and greet library patrons in a friendly manner.
  • Help prepare for and conduct children’s programs:  copying, cutting, etc. for children’s crafts.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be a team player.  Must be detail-oriented, courteous and respectful.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 
  • Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  • Attire:  Business casual attire is required.
  • General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Frequent reaching, walking and lifting up to 30lbs.  Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling, and pushing and lifting over 30 lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
