Diesel Truck and Heavy Equipment Repair Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 6:00AM-4:00PM, M-Th

Essential Functions

  •  Under the supervision of the Linn County Secondary Road Department, the student intern will be assigned duties to educate him/her about the occupation of a diesel engine and heavy equipment mechanic.
  • These duties will include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and component rebuild.
  • Student will be required to help with day-to-day operations that occur during normal work hours of the Secondary Roads Shop.
  • Any work performed by student will be under the direct supervision of a senior mechanic, shop manager or parts specialist, or others employed by Linn County.
  • Student will meet the performance and safety standards and specifications held by our department, as well as any manufacturer of the equipment they will be working on.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Skills/Knowledge: Ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be a team player. Must be detail-oriented, courteous and respectful. Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required. Intern must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  •  Experience/Education: Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing an automotive technology or diesel technology degree after high school. Must be mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  •  Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for work performed in a shop. Jeans or workpants free of holes, safety-toe shoes and shirt appropriate for working in the shop. Safety glasses will be provided.
  •  General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation: Frequent reaching, walking and lifting up to 50lbs. Occasional kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling, and pushing and lifting over 50 lbs.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
