Office Hours: 8am - 5pm

Soper Plumbing, Heating and Electric, Inc. is a family owned business in residential, commercial and industrial plumbing and heat.

The Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical Intern, under general supervision from staff, will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of plumbing, HVAC and electrical installation and repair.

Essential Functions: 

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs and in accordance with operation procedures and policies. 
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Report to the shop at the start of each scheduled day, may be asked to drive to jobsite.
  • Assist staff with repair and installation of services as requested.
  • Load, unload, and organize parts and equipment.
  • Acquire parts for jobs as directed by staff.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote a positive image.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:  Must have ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy working with the public without bias or prejudice.  Must be detail-oriented, courteous and respectful.  Professional and trustworthy conduct is required as the student will be working in customer’s homes.  Must be courteous and respectful.  Intern must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a plumbing, HVAC or electrical degree after high school.  Natural mechanical abilities helpful, along with basic knowledge of tools.  Must have a valid Iowa Driver’s License.

Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for varied outdoor weather conditions.  Jeans or workpants free of holes, closed toed shoes required, work boots recommended.  Plain t-shirt and/or sweatshirt. 

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs.  Will be required work outdoors subject to current weather conditions, and may be required to bend, stoop or observe in awkward positions. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
