STATUS: Internship – Unpaid


MISSION:
The Foundation’s purpose is to raise funds to support and expand the animal care services in the Iowa City area and fill the financial needs of animal welfare initiatives in our community. We seek health, comfort, freedom from fear, and a loving guardian for our companion animals.


POSITION SUMMARY:
As the Administrative Assistant Intern you will learn the day-to-day functions of a nonprofit. You will learn the importance of good record keeping, data entry, and more. In this position you may be exposed to QuickBooks reporting and accounting.

A very important part of running a nonprofit is thanking donors and making them feel important. You will help write and send thank you letters as well as consider/try new ideas. You will also be exposed to the day to day needs of a nonprofit, responding to emails, letters, creating registration forms, collecting data and more.

An ideal candidate would be someone interested in becoming an office manager, an administrative assistant, or perhaps starting your own business. This position will involve HR, accounting, data management, organizing and more. This position will require some in office time.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate will have:

·         Strong communication skills, both in writing and in person

·         The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

·         Excellent attention to detail

·         A passion for bookkeeping and data

·         A willingness to be flexible


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position could entail some physical demands such as setting up and taking down event tables and booths. This is sometimes done outdoors in warm weather. Majority of the activities will be virtual or digitally based. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform essential functions of the job.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
