Diesel Mechanic Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 7:30-5:30, Mon-Sat

Essential Functions

  • Under the supervision of the a diesel mechanic, the student intern will be assigned duties to learn about the occupation of a diesel engine and heavy equipment mechanic.
  • These duties will include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and component rebuild.
  • Student will help with day-to-day operations that occur during normal work hours and may include Saturdays.
  • Any work performed by the student will be under the direct supervision of a senior mechanic, shop manager or parts specialist.
  • Student will meet the performance and safety standards and specifications held by the company, as well as any manufacturer of the equipment they will be working on.
  • Student may observe and assist with basic welding onsite or in the field where appropriate upon training. Proper safety gear and instruction will be provided.

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Skills/Knowledge: Ability to follow instructions and strong communication skills. Student should ask questions when unsure and follow all safety protocol as instructed. Must be courteous and respectful. Professional and trustworthy conduct is expected. Intern should enjoy working in a team environment and be motivated to learn a trade.
  • Experience/Education:   Must be a high school student in good standing, and have an interest in pursuing a trade after high school.
  • Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for work performed in a shop. Interns will get dirty. Jeans or workpants, close-toed shoes, and shirt appropriate for working in the shop. Safety glasses will be provided.
  • General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation: Frequent reaching, walking and lifting up to 50lbs. Intern may be kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling, and pushing and lifting over 50 lbs.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
