JB Show Steers is a beef cattle farm located near Newhall, Iowa.

 

The Farm Management Intern, under the general supervision of farm employees, will participate in general farm work, and gain knowledge related to this career through hands-on work experience. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • General farm work - fixing fence, treatment of calves/cattle, maintenance of farm equipment.
  • Cattle feed production - hauling hay, raking hay, assist with chopping silage, hauling corn/beans during harvest.
  • Working show calves and bred heifers for spring sale – training, daily rinsing, etc.
  • Keep work areas neat and clean to promote a positive image to farm visitors.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, and be courteous and respectful.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working animals with compassion and empathy, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.  Willingness to multi-task, and complete routine tasks independently.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.
  • Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in agriculture after high school.   
  • Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for a farm setting.  Closed toed shoes, long pants or jeans without holes.  Intern may need to be prepared to dress for varied outdoor weather conditions, and should be prepared to get dirty. 
  • General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.



SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
