Vinton Unlimited is a merged Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development group. It is a private, non profit, voluntary organization. It unites hundreds of area businesses and professional firms, creating a unified voice working to improve business and build a better community.  Vinton Unlimited works to help Vinton achieve its fullest by providing continuous and effective leadership. It's strength lies in the active involvement of its membership. Both large and small businesses, are represented and influence the direction of the organization.  Vinton Unlimited has 11 board members and one paid professional.

 

The Economic Development & Marketing Intern, under the general supervision of the director, will assist with creation and maintenance of the organization's social media channels, and interact with member businesses, to learn more about a career in economic development.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.
  • Engage and contribute to the commission’s social media with relevant post and stories highlighting local development stories. 
  • Conduct interviews with local businesses (under supervision)
  • Maintain various databases and email distribution lists
  • Attend different meetings and functions with the Director when needed
  • Help plan events
  • Assist with board agenda and minutes

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge:  Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful.  Must be a detail-oriented team player.  Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.  Must possess the ability to think on their feet.

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in economic development after high school.  Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Attire: Plan to dress appropriately for a business setting.

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Frequent sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Occasional kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pulling, pushing or lifting over 30 lbs. 

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
