Internship Length: 90 hrs
Office Hours: 7:00-4:00, M-F

This internship will be at the Newhall or Central City location for Linn County Coop and is for students in the second semester of their senior year who have completed 4 years of agricultural studies in high school. Check with your Internship Coordinator to verify the location for your internship. Crop scouting and/or Shop Labor are the primary areas in which interns are trained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Crop Scouting

  • Work alongside professional agronomist to study crop production and soil management.
  • Report knowledge to agronomist and work alongside to make recommendation to client.

Shop Labor

  • Maintain equipment and recommend replacement when necessary.
  • Maintain fertilizer plant and warehouse as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required. PPE as required for the job will be provided.
  • Load and delivery of chemicals and seed.
  • Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies.
  • Display and promote company values.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to operate equipment.
  • Must pass a DMV check and drug and alcohol screen.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with other Coop employees, supervisory personnel and the public.
  • Ability to understand and make work decisions in accordance with office rules, regulations, policies and procedure.
  • Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • High School Senior, must be 18 or older
  • Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement preferred for Shop Labor

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Crop Scout may include:

  • Sitting 2-3 hours per workday
  • Standing 3-4 hours per workday
  • Walking 1-2 hours per workday
  • Bending/Stooping  1-2 hours per workday
  • Squatting 1-2 hours per workday
  • Reaching above shoulder level 1-2 times/day
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds of weight 1-2 times/day 

Shop Labor may include:

  • Sitting 5-6 hours per workday
  • Standing 2-3 hours per workday
  • Walking 1-2 hours per workday
  • Bending/Stooping 1-2 times/day
  • Squatting 1-2 times/day
  • Reaching above shoulder level 1-2 times/day
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds of weight 1-2 times/day

Requires being around moving machinery and equipment, operating a company vehicle, and wearing personal protective equipment as required.
A v
alid Drivers’ License with an Insurable Driving Record is required. Exposure to several chemicals, fertilizers, etc. is possible. Personal protective equipment will be provided.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
