The Library Assistant Intern will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of various aspects of day to day work at the library. There may be opportunities to assist with programming, patron service, and other duties deemed appropriate by the intern host.

Essential Functions

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping up with the mission, vision and beliefs in accordance with the operation procedures and policies.
  • Welcome, value and nurture patrons of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Meet and greet library patrons in a friendly manner.
  • Help prepare for and conduct children’s programs: copying, cutting, etc.
  • Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote a positive image.

Minimum Requirements

 Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to follow instructions, strong organizational, oral and written communication skills, and be a team player.
  • Must be detailed-oriented, courteous and respectful.
  • Professional and confidential conduct is required.

Experience/Education:

  • Must be a high school student in good standing.
  • Must be poised, mature and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Attire:

  • Business casual is required

General Physical Activities With or Without Reasonable Accommodations:

  • Frequent reaching, walking and lifting objects up to 30lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, grasping, pulling, pushing and lifting objects over 30lbs.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND PATRONS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
