Belle Plaine Specialty Care is a long-term care facility in Belle Plaine, Iowa.  

 

The Social Services Intern, under supervision of staff, will have the opportunity to observe and learn about a potential future career in Social Services.

 

Essential Functions

  • Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs and in accordance with operation procedures and policies. 
  • Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Patient and supportive, positive attitude toward working with the public.
  • Interns under the social services coordinator will learn the skills needed for planning, implementing and monitoring services for residents within housing, assisted living, and care center consistent with regulations.
  • Interns will lean how to work with referring agencies such as hospitals, hospices & home health agencies in finding potential housing placement options.
  • Interns will learn to support residents through resident advocacy, service coordination, marketing & admission processes. 
  • Interns will learn the need of a liaison between management and residents.

 

Minimum Requirements

Skills/Knowledge:  Must have ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and enjoy working with the public without bias or prejudice.  Must be detail-oriented, courteous and respectful.  Professional and trustworthy conduct is required.  Intern must enjoy working in a team environment, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. 

 

Experience/Education:  Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a career in social work after high school.

 

Attire: Business Casual Dress is required.  Khakis or dress pants, closed toed, comfortable shoes, and professional, conservative tops. 

 

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation:  Occasional sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.  Frequent sitting, reading, writing, and lifting less than 30 lbs.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, WILL BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
