Vinton Newspapers is located in Vinton, Iowa.

The Journalism Intern, under general supervision of staff, will have the opportunity to learn more about a career in journalism through this internship experience.

Essential Functions:

Use and model appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the organization, and in accordance with operation procedures and policies.
Welcome, value and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
Shadow reporters and photographers as they cover news stories.
Cover stories independently and submit reports to editor.
Learn and improve writing and interviewing skills, learn about photography and photo editing, web posting, and video.
Help keep work areas neat and organized to promote positive image.
Use appropriate behavior in keeping with the mission, vision and beliefs and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge: Must have the ability to follow instructions, strong organizational and communication skills, and be courteous and respectful. Must be a detail-oriented team player. Professional, trustworthy, and confidential conduct is required. Intern must enjoy working with the public without bias, be a self-starter, motivated, and able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Must be poised, mature, and possess a positive attitude while being flexible.

Experience/Education: Must be a high school student in good standing, and interested in pursuing a journalism career after high school. Must possess writing and computer skills, and a willingness to learn.

Attire: Business casual dress is required. Intern may need to be prepared to dress for varied outdoor weather conditions.

General Physical Activities with or without reasonable accommodation: Frequent sitting, standing, reaching, walking or lifting up to 30lbs.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.
