Civil Right Commission Intern

Internship Length: 45 hrs
Office Hours: 8-5, Monday-Thursday

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

·  Maintain working knowledge of the Marion Civil Rights Commission and Marion Municipal Code as it applies to the work of the Commission.

·  Center principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all projects.

·  Conduct research for projects (ex: minority business survey project, communications project, etc.).

·  Draft and edit public education materials for the Commission.

·  Draft canned statement for use on social media relevant to civil rights.

·  Assist staff in drafting and proofreading relevant documents.

·  Participate at local and state meetings and events held or attended by the Commission. 

·  Report to and work closely with the Staff Liaison on projects.

·  Provide a presentation of work to the Commission.

·  Special projects, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·         Interest in civil rights and public policy

·         Ability to follow directions

·         Ability to work both independently and on a team

·         Strong communications skills

·         Professional conduct

·         Ability to be flexible and move from one task to another efficiently

·         Follow rules of conduct for City Employees, including dress code


THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
