Internship Title: Construction Intern

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Construction Director, the Construction Intern is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations on the Iowa Valley Habitat construction site, resulting in the construction of a new Habitat home.

Minimum Qualifications:

·       Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and function smoothly under strict deadlines and shifting priorities.

·       Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with volunteers.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills in individual and group settings.

·       Completion of prerequisite industrial technology coursework, or participation in a construction class paired with this internship.

Position Description:

·       Participate in on-site construction activities in cooperation with relevant staff and partners to include Construction Site Supervisor, Habitat crew leaders, etc.

·       Always maintain a safe and volunteer-friendly work site, enforcing safety guidelines.

·       Help to maintain functional inventory of tools and supplies. Assist in the maintenance and organization of Habitat’s construction facility.

·       Report promptly to the Construction Director about any on-site accidents involving staff, subcontractors, or volunteers.

·       Other duties as required or requested by the Construction Director.

 

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
