Overview:

This internship provides high school students with the opportunity to explore the field of biology through hands-on learning, observation, and guided projects. Interns will gain insight into scientific practices, laboratory procedures, and biological research while developing professional skills in communication, organization, and teamwork.

Responsibilities may include:

·         Assisting with laboratory experiments, sample collection, or simple data recording

·         Helping maintain lab materials, equipment, and workspaces

·         Observing and shadowing professionals during biological research or fieldwork

·         Supporting projects related to ecology, genetics, microbiology, or environmental biology (depending on placement)

·         Participating in meetings, discussions, and group learning activities

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Skills Developed:

·         Introduction to basic lab safety and scientific methods

·         Understanding of biology concepts in real-world applications

·         Improved data collection, organization, and problem-solving skills

·         Professional communication, teamwork, and time management

·         Career exploration in science, healthcare, or research fields

Requirements:

·         High school students currently enrolled in a biology or science course

·         Interest in biology, science, or related fields

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
