Microbiologist (Johnson & Linn Counties)

About the Internship:

This internship offers high school students an introduction to microbiology, the study of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Interns will assist laboratory staff with basic research and lab support while gaining exposure to scientific methods and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with preparation of lab materials, media, and cultures.
Learn sterile techniques for handling samples under supervision.
Help collect, label, and record biological samples.
Support lab safety and cleanliness by sanitizing equipment and workspaces.
Observe experiments and research procedures conducted by microbiologists.
Participate in data entry and documentation of lab activities.
Complete assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Understanding of microbiology concepts and laboratory techniques.
Experience working in a professional lab environment with safety protocols.
Exposure to real-world applications of microbiology in health, agriculture, and the environment.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in high school (11th - 12th grade).
