Ag Mechanic Intern

Position Summary:

 
This internship provides students with hands-on experience in agricultural mechanics, focusing on the maintenance, repair, and operation of farm equipment and machinery. Interns will learn from experienced technicians while developing valuable technical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with routine maintenance of tractors, combines, and other farm machinery.

  • Observe and support equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting.

  • Help with cleaning, organizing, and preparing tools and workspaces.

  • Shadow technicians to learn about hydraulics, electrical systems, and engine repair.

  • Follow safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.

  • Complete assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of agricultural machinery operation and repair.

  • Gain exposure to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Develop safe work habits and tool-handling skills.

  • Explore career pathways in agricultural technology and mechanics.

Qualifications:

  • High school student (11th - 12th grade).

  • Interest in agriculture, mechanics, or engineering.

  • Willingness to work with hands-on tasks and learn new skills.

  • Ability to follow directions and maintain safety standards.

Details:

  • Duration: Semester or summer placement.

  • Schedule: 5–10 hours per week (flexible).

  • Location: Local farm, dealership, or ag service shop.

  • Supervision: Agricultural mechanic, technician, or farm manager.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
