Mechanical Engineer Intern

 

Overview:

This internship provides high school students with an introduction to the field of mechanical engineering, where professionals design, build, and test machines and mechanical systems. Students will observe engineers in action, assist with basic project support, and gain exposure to how math, science, and creativity are applied to solving real-world problems.

Responsibilities May Include:

·         Shadow mechanical engineers in office, lab, or workshop settings.

·         Learn about the design process, including drafting, modeling, and prototyping.

·         Assist with project tasks such as organizing materials, recording data, or preparing equipment.

·         Observe testing of machines, devices, or prototypes while learning about safety procedures.

·         Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Skills & Knowledge Gained:

·         Introduction to mechanical engineering principles and applications.

·         Awareness of tools, software, and equipment used in design and testing.

·         Hands-on exposure to problem-solving and teamwork in a technical setting.

·         Understanding of workplace safety, organization, and professionalism.

·         Insight into career paths in engineering, robotics, manufacturing, and design.

Requirements:

·         Interest in math, science, design, or problem-solving.

·         Willingness to learn in both office and workshop/lab environments.

·         Strong attention to detail and safety.

·         Professionalism, reliability, and teamwork.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this internship, students will have a foundational understanding of mechanical engineering, practical exposure to design and testing processes, and clearer direction toward future education and careers in engineering and technology.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
