Plumber Intern

Position Summary:

This internship provides high school students with hands-on exposure to the plumbing trade. Interns will shadow licensed plumbers to learn about installation, repair, and maintenance of residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing systems. Students will gain an understanding of career pathways in the skilled trades while developing practical problem-solving and workplace skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Shadow plumbers on service calls, installations, and maintenance projects.

  • Assist with basic tasks such as organizing tools, preparing materials, and cleanup.

  • Learn how to identify plumbing tools, parts, and equipment.
    Observe the process of reading blueprints and understanding system layouts.

  • Gain exposure to safety standards and proper workplace practices.

  • Support project documentation or inventory tasks as assigned.

  •  Completing assignments, reflection journals, or internship workbook entries as required by the program

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the role of plumbing in construction and community infrastructure.

  • Gain awareness of career opportunities in the skilled trades.

  • Learn the importance of safety, precision, and customer service in plumbing.

  • Develop teamwork, problem-solving, and hands-on technical skills.

Qualifications:

  • High school student (11th - 12th grade).

  • Interest in skilled trades, construction, or hands-on work.

  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to learn.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

Details:

  • Duration: Semester or summer placement.

  • Schedule: 5–10 hours per week, flexible with school schedule.

  • Location: Local plumbing company or contractor worksites.

  • Supervision: Licensed plumber or plumbing supervisor.

THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT LIST ALL DUTIES. INTERN MAY BE ASKED TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES BY THE STAFF OR SUPERVISOR. INTERN WILL BE EVALUATED ON PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECTS LISTED AS WELL AS INTERACTION WITH EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. ON-SITE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH EACH CANDIDATE.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS, INCLUDING HARASSMENT, SHOULD BE REVIEWED WITH THE HOST.
